I think it is great that you are deciding to change your diet. I’m wondering if you are still studying in India and if you live there. I’ve lived there.

I’ve been on “mostly raw vegan” for almost two years and it is serving me and my husband very well. I’ve lived in India and that would create its own challenges. It is not easy to eat anything raw there.

A good vegan ayurvedic diet with as much safe fresh fruits and vegetables as you can get would be great for India. But you have to find safe ways to sterilize fresh veggies and to peel fruit skins. It is not hard to discover the ayurvedic style suited for you if you are in India.

Hope that helps.

Comment on Apple Cake with Cinnamon – Gluten Free by Diana Herrington http://realfoodforlife.com/apple-cake-vegan-gluten-free/comment-page-1/#comment-206069 Diana Herrington Sat, 18 May 2013 18:55:08 +0000 http://realfoodforlife.com/?p=4986#comment-206069 Buckwheat flour will not be a good replacement for potato flour as it needs to be something to help bind it all together. Also, buckwheat flour has a strong taste for a dessert. Better to add more brown rice flour and chick pea or soy flour. Let me how it works. Always interested in baking experiments.

Lightly steamed asparagus should be a fine substitute for broccoli. I never seem to follow recipes…..

Comment on 10 Health Benefits of Mangos by Randy Fritz http://realfoodforlife.com/10-health-benefits-of-mangos/comment-page-1/#comment-204954 Randy Fritz Wed, 15 May 2013 00:05:42 +0000 http://realfoodforlife.com/?p=6923#comment-204954 Honestly Sam, I am only guessing on this but there is a thing called ‘mango itch’ – caused when handling freshly picked mangos that have juice dripping from the stem ends. The sappy juice gets on hands and, if not washed off quickly and adequately, can be spread to other body parts for up to three days.
The other possibility is that it is some internal reaction. Even though mangoes have a host of health benefits, there always remains of possibility that your unique body is reacting in some way. This is the old ‘one man’s poison is another man’s medicine’ idea.
Just so you know, a lot of people don’t like the skins and don’t bother with them.
