Dandelions Benefits: A Celebration of This Spring Flower

Dandelion flowers are a source of antioxidants and they help relieve depression.  They also help with pain from headaches,  backaches,  stomach cramps, and menstrual cramps.  Dandelion petals also contain Vitamin A and Vitamin B12 which are also good for the eyes. Learn more about their health benefits. The most important ingredient thin this dandelion flower syrup recipe are dandelion flowers.

Pick your dandelions before mowing the lawn for your dandelion flower syrup or digging them up for dandelion coffee. Or go out into the country and pick them in the wild away from pollution. Never use ones that have been sprayed with weed killer. My hands get all yellow from the picking.

Is Maple Syrup Really of Full Healthy Benefits?

Maple syrup is a healthy sweetener for your dandelion flower syrup. Yummy maple syrup is thick gooey syrup poured lavishly on pancakes.  Even though it is a superfood, it is sugar and that means it is not good to eat too much of it.  I was happily surprised that it has some interesting health benefits. It is full of antioxidants that help fight inflammatory diseases protecting your health from diseases like cancer, Alzheimer’s, and type 2 diabetes. Maple syrup aids digestion and is great for the gut.

When researching this tasty sweetener, I was happily surprised that it has some interesting health benefits. This means we can include small amounts in our food. Here is a favourite maple syrup of mine.

Escuminac Unblended Maple Syrup Canadian Grade A – Extra Rare – Pure Organic Single Forest – Smooth Velvety 16.9 fl oz (500ml)
This pure award-winning maple syrup is produced exclusively with sap harvested during the first days of the run. Exceptional syrup with a smooth, velvety texture. It is light in the mouth, featuring a subtle caramel and honeysuckle bouquet with a hint of cinnamon and a lingering flavour.

Lemons’ health benefits are immense.  To begin they are acidic to the taste but are alkaline-forming in the body. In fact, they are one of the most alkaline-forming superfoods; this makes them great for balancing a highly acidic condition in the body. Also, they are full of many health benefits.

Time to make your dandelion flower syrup.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dandelion flowers
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 3 Tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

  • Wash the dandelion flowers and spin dry them like you would lettuce.
  • Cut their base to detach the yellow petals from the green leaves; you only want the petals as the green part is bitter. You can do this by hand but it is faster with a knife.
  • Place the flowers in a pot with 1 cup of water; I always use filtered water.
  • Mix well until all of the petals are covered with water.
  • Bring the pot to a boil and boil for 5 minutes.
  • Then simmer on very low heat for 25 minutes.*Strain the liquid from the flowers into a second pot.
  • Add the maple syrup and stir till melted.
  • Now mix in the lemon juice.
  • Let it cool and store in a glass jar in the refrigerator; the maple syrup acts as a preservative.
  • Enjoy your dandelion flower syrup on some pancakes. See the dandelion flower pancake recipe below.

Notes

* OR Out in a jar and put in the fridge overnight to steep like tea, bringing the flavors out of the flowers.

  1. Your ingredients call for maple syrup but your directions say to stir in honey. But then it says the maple syrup (which was never added) acts as a preservative?
