Green Salad Recipe Ingredients
Romaine Lettuce
The most nourishing lettuce is Romaine lettuce. An ordinary green salad becomes very tasty with crispy and refreshing Romaine lettuce. It has been called ‘the perfect weight loss food’ and ‘rabbit food’ but it is so much more. With amazing healing benefits and 20% protein by calories, it could be called ‘gorilla food’ instead. It is low in calories and high in fiber and cellulose. It is heart-healthy and has a great ratio of omega-3 fatty acids. Lettuce is a great alkaline-forming food that is low on the glycemic index. This adds a juicy crunch to this delicious green salad.
Spinach
Spinach was a superfood even before there was the term superfood. I’m referring of course to Popeye the Sailor Man. One can of the green stuff and he turned into muscle popping tornado of energy. Even without Popeye’s recommendation, spinach contains more nutrients per calorie than any other food on the earth. It is loaded with vitamins like A, K, D, and E and a host of trace minerals and is a good source of omega 3 fatty acid and this green salad helps you get a serving of spinach into your day in a tasty way.
Olive Oil
For this delicious green salad, I make my very own Olive Oil Lemon Juice Salad Dressing: This olive oil lemon juice salad dressing is always enjoyed by everyone who has it on one of my salads. This is why I created the exact recipe years ago. It is important to have a healthy salad dressing because it is the salad dressing that makes it a healthy or unhealthy salad. I love to eat salads with a healthy salad dressing and so I always make my own salad dressings.
A healthy salad is often ruined by drenching it with a highly-processed salad dressing from the supermarket which is not healthy as it is filled with artificial flavorings, colorings, preservatives, sugar, and white distilled vinegar (which is hard on the digestive system).
Olive oil was referred to as “Liquid Gold” by the famous Greek poet Homer. If you are what you eat, what would happen if you consumed “Liquid Gold” daily? Extra-virgin olive oil (cold-pressed) is the best fat to use as a salad dressing. Do not use it for cooking. It has a low smoke point and heat makes it susceptible to oxidative damage. Olive oil has so many health benefits I include a little every day when I eat my salad. It is the main ingredient in my olive oil lemon juice salad dressing that I use for my green salad. Make sure you are using real olive oil. Have you heard of the olive oil fraud?

Lemons’ health benefits are immense. To begin they are acidic to the taste but are alkaline-forming in the body. In fact, they are one of the most alkaline-forming superfoods; this makes them great for balancing a highly acidic condition in the body. Lemon juice adds that important extra tang to the green salad.
Oranges
Oranges are a delicious, juicy healthy treat! They are a very healthy superfood as they help fight cancer, fight viral infections, and relieve constipation and much more. Plus, they mix very well with the spinach in this delicious green salad, combining to give you the best health benefits of both ingredients.
Cucumbers
Cucumbers are the perfect summer veggie that keeps your body hydrated, strong, and happy. They hydrate your body and help to flush out toxins. They are good for treating high blood pressure and for weight loss and may help fight cancer and reduce the risk of heart disease. They are highly alkaline-forming and may help reduce cholesterol and help with diabetes. The cucumber is a cooling ingredient in this delicious green salad.
Sunflower Seeds
I also toast my own sunflower seeds for this green salad which is very quick and easy to do. Here is the recipe for Toasted Sunflower Seeds. Delicious nutty sunflower seeds are a popular snack that is undervalued. They may be small but sunflower seeds are a dense source of nutrients and full of extraordinary health benefits. They are for sure a healthy superfood.
If you prefer you can use pumpkin seeds instead which are my favourite.
Sometimes I sprinkle Chia Seeds on top.
