Sugar Free Apple Sauce

I love sweets! I know that many others do too, as I am frequently hearing about it.

To help with those sugar cravings in a healthy way, we need to prepare nutritious sweets. I have created lots of sugar free recipes and here is one of my favorites.

Of course it is more nutritious to eat the fruit raw but sometimes we are looking for that comfort food that is sweet and hot. This is a good fruit sauce that does not have any added sugar and it tastes good too.

  • me and my sister are both allergic to Gluten and we were always on a gluten-free diet ever since we were teenagers. |

  • Hi Ashley, I am happy you found your way here as all of my recipes are Gluten Free. Do have a look through the recipes…there are even gluten free cookies that are yummy.

    Hi Diana,
Thanks for all you doing here and at Care2. Wonderful site here with healthy, yummy information & recipes.

  • Maria, it is my pleasure and great to be appreciated too. I’d send you a star but we don’t have them on our site.

  • Drew:

This is not sugar-free. It is a recipe for No-Sugar Added Apple Sauce, but Apples have quite a bit of sugar in them already, so this may be misleading to a diabetic who must watch sugar intake.

  • Thanks Drew. We will be more specific. It should read no sugar or white sugar added. Most whole foods have some simple sugars in them. Diabetics must take this into account.

this is a great recipe. i love making my own apple sauce.

randy — i agree with you about whole foods having sugar in them.

    what are sultanas?????

    annie!

  • Hi Annie, happy that you love making your own apples sauce too.
Sultanas are a type of raisin; guess I need to say that in my recipes since you are the second one to ask me that here this week. Thank you!

  • Anon:

Well over a year old, and article is still titled ‘sugar free’… regardless of Randy Fritz’ reply.
Any raisins raise the sugar content significantly… why should apple sauce have raisins (sultanas) added… are apples not sweet enough by themselves?. I read where ‘Raisins range from about 67% to 72% sugars by weight, most of which is fructose and glucose’.
Trying not to nitpick, but… seems -not- like good sugar management.
It really -is- a service to be verbally specific … and getting people into the right frame of mind. “No sugar added” is better… although… the sultanas are pretty full of sugar, but natural… still I’d have conflict with ‘no sugar added’ and adding ’1/2 cup sultanas’. I’ve seen other homemade applesauce recipes with a little bit of lemon rather than raisins.

  • Anon, I agree sultanas are a sweetener. All fruits and vegetables except for green leafy vegetables have sugar in them so it is not possible to avoid natural sugar for a healthy sustainable diet.
There is no real sugar added here and if you look at what most apple sauce recipes include you will find white and or brown sugar added. That being the case I am creating recipes that take one from that to a healthier recipe. You do not need to add the sultanas if that extra sweeteness is not what you need to enjoy it. I often just make the apple sauce with just apples and that is good enough for me but I have found some people find it not sweet enough.
