Diana’s Green Smoothie with a Difference

I prefer to eat my green smoothie rather than drink it.

It makes more sense to eat them rather than drink them as digestion starts with the digestive juices in the mouth.

Also, when I heard that jaw exercises were being sold to people who drank lots of green smoothies all day…..I knew I was on the right track.

I don’t show it in the video but you can add different greens.  I often use dandelion greens or lamb’s quarters.

You have to be careful in adding TOO MUCH of these kinds of greens because they have a stronger taste.

  1. I would like to say that I liked as the other two videos about smooties I saw on this site better. That person doing the demonstration was extremely knowledgeable and a great teacher and good looking to boot!

    Anonymous Unbiased Commenter

  2. haha…you would say that and not that you are bragging or anything. You can’t even spell smoothies! You call that knowledgeable. 🙂 And what do you mean unbiased commenter?

  3. Diana, Thanks – I’m trying one soon! And I think 1) your delivery was fine, 2) you’re pretty.

  4. Thanks Diana for the video! I will be transitioning to a raw food diet at the end of this month, and these videos will really help me SEE the process I have to use as a raw foodist. I am doing TONS of research/reading on raw food, but visually seeing someone do the recipes is a great learning tool for me 🙂 Can’t wait for the rest of the series 🙂

  5. I just made my first ‘green smoothy’.

It is deliciously ‘chewy’ using my standard blender, and really feels fulfilling/grounding.

    Bryce’s Protein Power Punch Smoothy:

    Ingredients:
    A couple handfuls, baby Spinach
1 Apple, with stem and roughest part of core removed, cut in 8 pieces
    2 tbsps Hemp seeds
4 or 5 strawberries, green parts removed
    filtered Water, as required.

    Directions:
Dump contents into blender, in order
Fill to 2-cup level with water
    Blend 2-3 minutes
    Enjoy!

  6. Will try your smoothie today, sounds good and I like that you ‘eat’ it. Didn’t know that about almonds, I guess I am soaking them from now on. Looking forward to your other videos. Thanks.

  7. Thank you. I would like to have the apples, spinach and almonds to make that smoothie right now. I have been talking to a friend who is basically dying with cancer about 15 minutes ago. This smoothie perhaps would be something she could drink to give her strength!

P.S. I didn’t know about soaking the almonds overnight for better digestion.

  8. Yes we love our green smoothies!

I am happy that many are learning about how to make nuts more digestible; here is more to read: https://www.realfoodforlife.com/nuts-seeds

Linda, sending my best to your friend and I am sure the smoothie would give her strength.

All green smoothie recipes very welcome here…please do post them here.

  9. Great video for beginners, thank you for the information on almonds. I am also a smoothie drinker, would it be okay to use green tea instead of spring water? I also use
    nutritional yeast in mine.
    thank you again.

  10. Christine Farrell

Thank you for the green smoothie recipe. Also for the info about soaking the almonds.
Is this common to other kinds of nuts too?

  11. Thank you Trish, you could use green tea but make sure you did not use boiling water to make it as the live enzymes will be lost. Why do you want to make it with green tea? The green leafies will do the trick.

Christine, Yes it is and here is where to get all the info about Nuts & Seeds: https://www.realfoodforlife.com/nuts-seeds

  12. Since I am new to your site, didn’t know you would comment to me, thank you. Guess I wasn’t thinking about using green tea, you are so right about getting enough of the “green leafies” without using tea.
    thank you again.

  13. I am very glad there are “live” people like you Diane, I feel like I have found a friend.
One little thing I do for a smoothie, I cut the bananas in pieces, freeze them
and toss them in with the other ingredients, makes a “cool” drink. Maybe this
    isn’t new for others.
    Thanks again.

  14. I try to avoid RAW spinach and other raw cruciferous veggies as it is bad for the thyroid.
What are your thoughts on that.

  15. Sandy, I am not sure how very bad spinach is for the thyroid. Raw spinach has goitrogens which can temporarily interfere with your body’s ability to absorb iodine from food. I believe that eating raw spinach in moderation not likely to cause a problem unless you have a severe thyroid condition. Make sure you get lots of iodine into your diet and it will not be a problem.
You can use a dark green lettuce instead of spinach.
