Sweet Potato Chips Recipe For You to Enjoy a Crispy Tasty Snack

Being a big fan of sweet potatoes, I love these sweet potato chips that are a fun tasty food to eat. They are easy to make too. They can be part of a meal or good party food served with a dip such as guacamole or pesto.

Sweet Potato Chips

Don’t let the ‘sweet’ in a sweet potato scare you. They have a lower glycemic index than white potatoes. That means they are less likely to produce insulin resistance and its accompanying health problems, including weight gain. They are a smart carb, very rich in carotenoids, vitamins A, B6, C, potassium, iron, and fiber. They provide a wealth of health benefits and are a great addition to your meals.  Learn all about Sweet Potatoes Health Benefits.

I always use coconut oil to make ‘Sweet Potato Chips’. It has been used throughout Asia and the Pacific for thousands of years as both food and medicine.

In tropical climates like Polynesia, Sri Lanka, and the Yucatan where they have a diet high in coconut oil, the people are healthier and have less heart disease, cancer, and colon problems than unsaturated fat eaters. It is now accepted that there is good cholesterol and there are good saturated fats. Learn the Health Benefits of Coconut Oil.

Sprinkling a little Himalayan salt and paprika on the sweet potato chips is good too to bring out the tasty flavour.

Simply Organic Organic Ground Paprika is a warm, organic paprika that adds a mild, spicy flavor and color to soups, grains, and horse oeuvres. It is certified Organic Kosher, and 1% of sales support organic farming.

Also, I always use Pink Himalayan Salt, a healthy salt for you!

Ok, let’s make some of these tasty chips for you.

Cutting sweet potatoes into slices.

To make the sweet potato chips, first, slice the sweet potato into very thin rounds (1/4 inch thick). You can slice them with a Mandolin and they will look prettier, see the photo below recipe.

Baking the chips on a baking sheet.

Place the slices in a single layer on a baking sheet, not overlapping. Use a second sheet if needed.

Sprinkle the oil on both sides of the sweet potatoes. Now, sprinkle them with paprika, and salt. Bake them for 20 minutes.

Another Great Pesto to Try as a Dip or Sauce

Arugula Pesto Recipe – Healthy and Dairy Free – This arugula pesto is a favourite of mine and it is great to be able to use walnuts instead of the wonderful pine nuts with are so expensive. Usually, cheese is an ingredient when making a pesto recipe but there is no cheese in this and it still has a cheesy flavour thanks to the Nutritional Yeast used.

Vegan Hemp Heart Pesto is Nut Free and Delicious – This hemp heart pesto is vegan, nut-free, and raw. It makes lunch or dinner extra delicious. Most pestos have cheese in them which doesn’t work for those of us who eat dairy-free.  I always make my pestos without the cheese. For some, it is best not to eat lots of nuts and this hemp heart pesto is perfect as the hemp hearts add flavour and texture without the nuts.

A great dip for a party or picnic. Who doesn’t enjoy delicious hummus? The other great thing about this dip is that it is dairy-free and gluten-free too.
